Honor Academy Speech and Debate Programs are led by knowleadgeble coaching Staff. All our speech and debate coaches have successful career as both competitors and teaching coaches.

Scott Brown

Scott has taught and operated debate camps for middle and high school students for over a decade. Scott has coached the top overall individual debate speaker at Harvard, the Harvard Round Robin, NSDA Middle School Nationals, the Glenbrooks, Wake Forest, the University of Kentucky, Jack Howe, and the NYC Invitational. Scott  previously coached for Fullerton Union High School, Capitol Debate, and the Asian Debate League.

Kitiny Phumchun

Kitiny began her debate career in policy and parliamentary debate in college, achieving accolades at the local and national level such as first place at the Southern California Intercollegiate Oratorical Contest and the prestigious title of All-American in debate. Seeking to give back to the debate community, she found Honor Academy, and since then, she has coached numerous students to success, including the semifinalists at the state level championship tournament.

Carlos Pelayo

Carlos has been coaching speech and debate for three years and holds extensive experience in competing in collegiate forensics. In his competitive career, Carlos has competed in Policy, Parliamentary, and Lincoln-Douglas debate; in speech, he’s competed in extemporaneous, impromptu, informative, persuasive, and after-dinner speaking. In each event and style of debate, Carlos has earned numerous awards at the local and state level tournaments.
